Not only is Gym Leader Challenge being featured as major side events in official Pokémon Regionals, International Championships, and the World Championships, GLC is being played at local game stores and Pokémon Leagues all over the world! These events are great ways to get involved in the hobby and meet new people. GLC is a singleton Pokémon Trading Card Game format that is ripe with possibilities and strategies to explore. The rules of Gym Leader Challenge are simple:
Only one of each card with the same name per deck (except Basic Energy)
No Rule Box cards or ACE SPEC cards
Only one type (color) of Pokémon per deck
Cards printed from Black & White–on
No cards on the Ban List
Registration
This format Tournament is open for all ages and skill levels. Each event can host a limit of 20 competitors. Players can register in-person or online starting two weeks prior to the tournament, and registration is open until all spots have been reserved. Players should arrive at 5:30 PM. Last call for registration is 6:00 PM.
Preparation
All that you need to compete is a 60-card GLC legal deck in identical non-transparent sleeves, and a deck box. These decks will need to be checked by a Staff member, to ensure all cards and sleeves are tournament-legal. If you are unsure whether your cards are legal, you can ask a Staff member! Each player will hand in their deck when ready, and final deck changes must be made before 6:00 PM.
Competition
The first round starts at 6:00 PM, and the first match-ups are randomized by the tournament software. All subsequent rounds are determined by a player’s calculated win-loss ratio for direct matches. This means that each round, players are randomly matched up with other players that have the same win-loss ratio. There will be up to 5 total rounds, each with 1 match.
